
Presidential candidate Rafael Correa, from Alianza Pais movement, is ahead in the official vote count of the Ecuadorian elections on Monday, with a commanding 31.96-percent lead over his rival Alvaro Noboa, of Partido Renovador Institucional (Prian).
With 19.10 percent of the ballots counted, Correa achieves 65.98 percent compared to just 34.02 for the Prian leader.
According to the Supreme Electoral Council (TSE), the Alianza Pais runner is winning in 19 provinces and the banana tycoon in Esmeraldas, although data from the territories of Guayas and Manabi, where heads of electoral courts are Prian members, are still unknown.
However, exit polls already show the progressive candidate victor of the Nov 26 runoff.
From Sunday evening, hundreds of Alianza Pais supporters are celebrating in Quito the triumph of Correa, who announced the beginning of a new stage in Ecuador, free of neoliberalism, at a news conference.
He reiterated he will forward a supportive policy for health, education, labor and housing to avoid immigration in the Andean country.
The progressive contender is in favor of a Constituent Assembly to reform the nation and against a free trade agreement with the US.
Meanwhile, his runner-up Noboa rejected polls«results and said he will wait for TSE upshot.
He added he will request a vote recount if the electoral entity confirms his defeat.
