HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE

FUNDRAISING PUB QUIZ: THURSDAY 11 FEBRUARY AT LIBERTY HALL, EDEN QUAY, DUBLIN 1.

OVER € 2,000 RAISED FOR HAITI APPEAL

This bank transfer confirms the transmission of funds raised at the recent Cuba Support Group Ireland/LASC Pub Quiz in aid of the Cuban medical mission to Haiti which was held in Liberty Hall on 11 February 2010.

A total of € 2,023.75 was raised comprising € 1,323.75 raised on the night and two subsequent donations made in the sums of € 200 (donor wishes to remain anonymous) and € 500 (SIPTU).

The Cuban medical teams are continuing to deliver much needed emergency care in the earthquake zones and have now opened rehabilitative clinics in two locations to assist amputees with regaining as much mobility as possible and coping with the legacy of their injuries. The Cuban medical team is now the largest of all the medical teams in country and the only one committed to remaining for the long term under ongoing medical assistance arrangements with the government of Haiti. Its work is also recognised by the United Nations.

The funds raised will fund their work through the provision of much needed medicines, surgical supplies, diagnostic materials and prosthetics. Cuba Support Group has paid the charges associated with making the transfer and donors can therefore rest assured that 100 % of all funds raised will go to helping the injured inside Haiti with no deductions for administration, staff costs, advertising or agent fees.

The money raised will be spent of ultra-low cost Cuban medicines and medical supplies which are produced without the need to generate profit for the manufacturers. In this way the € 2,023 raised will have at least a five-fold efficacy in supplying medical aid to people in need in Haiti. No other international aid fund comes close to this level of efficacy.

Cuba Support Group Ireland and Latin America Solidarity Centre would like to thank all those who contributed so generously to their Haiti appeal and all who worked behind the scenes to make the event such a success.

Cuba Support Group Ireland will continue to accept donations for onward transmission to the Cuban government's Medical Aid for Haiti Fund based in Havana, Cuba. Cheques made payable to "Cuba Aid" can be posted to CSGI or transferred electronically free of charge from any bank in Ireland to:
