PUBLIC EVENT

"On the road to defend human rights, from Guatemala to Dublin via the UN!"

Monday 24th September, 6.30 to 8.00pm, Pearse Centre, Pearse Street, Dublin 2


Ana Myrella Saavra Sivera, director of PAMI who work with children and adolescents in Guatemala, educating them about their rights and lobbying local and national governments to protect the rights of young people.

 

Maria Velazquez Xon works with the Fundación Guillermo Toriello. The FGT provides emergency and practical assistance to communities in need, and mobilise communities to defend their land and territorial rights.

 

Pascual Martin Vasquez from COPAE, the Pastoral Commission of Peace and Ecology of the San Marcos diocese in Guatemala. COPAE mobilizes indigenous communities against the threats of extractive industries and megaprojects.


Alejandra Castillo from CALDH, the Centre for Legal Action for Human Rights. CALDH have played a major role in representing the victims of Guatemala's armed conflict, a conflict which lasted for 36 years and during which more than 200,000 mostly indigenous people were killed.
